Zion, IL – Following through on her promise to serve the community as an advocate for mental health awareness, Miss Zion winner Violette Betancourt donated the proceeds from her July 15th benefit concert to NorthPointe Resources July 18th at the Killian Center. Ms. Betancourt presented NorthPointe CEO Dina Donohue-Chase and Development Manager Cheryl Dunlap with a check for $446, which the organization will use to help fund its various programs and services.
The 2017-2018 Miss Zion winner organized and hosted the six hour outdoor concert at Harbors Edge Restaurant in Waukegan. Attendees of the event enjoyed an evening of jazz music, a variety of food, as well as a chance to win raffle prizes donated by several community sponsors.
Violette cites the lasting impression from a tour she took of NorthPointe as the inspiration behind choosing the organization as the beneficiary of her fundraising efforts.
“When I first stepped into NorthPointe, I fell in love with the place. Now having opportunity to be Ms. Zion five years later, I chose to support NorthPointe because I wanted do something for my community that would make people think: “oh wow, she did that,”” Betancourt said, “I wanted to inspire people to give something back. To remind them there is a lot of good they can do within their own communities.”
While Violette was in contact with NorthPointe staff leading up to the event, she alone shouldered the entirety of the planning process, securing a venue, band, and sponsors in addition to promoting the event online.
“I was very impressed with Violette’s passion for supporting those with mental health issues,” said Dunlap, “it was huge undertaking for her to organize this event, and I know our entire organization is both inspired by and grateful for her efforts.”
