Psychosocial Rehabilitation

Psychosocial Rehabilitation

The PSR program at NorthPointe is for persons diagnosed with chronic Mental Illness. The primary focus is relapse prevention, recovery, and building resilience. The approach is holistic in nature and takes into account the whole person. It is designed to assist our individuals in building skills in independent living, learning, social and working environments. Individual participation in setting individualized goals is strongly encouraged and fostered in the program design, where personal choice is emphasized, and personal responsibility is nurtured.

Understanding the importance of building and utilizing natural supports, we spend over half of our scheduled program hours in the local community. We participate in the local Meals on Wheels delivery program, volunteer at the Zion Food Pantry, and forge partnerships with other community groups and organizations, to encourage our people to engage in “giving back”, as well as full access of the local resources to benefit their quality of living. Above all, PSR is about building relationships, and nurturing those relationships, understanding that these can become the foundation of continued wellness and sound health.

PSR Groups:

  • Recovery & Relapse Prevention
  • Self Advocacy
  • Healthy Lifestyles

LSE has partnered with a local horse riding program called Partners for Progress. We have joined together with this outstanding organization because we are dedicated to providing our individuals with quality alternative therapeutic programs. Additionally, we offer our individuals pet interaction. Individuals are exposed to pets to help improve well-being and social skills. Interaction can vary to suite each individual’s needs.

With the help of the Gurnee Theater Company, individuals with disabilities can attend workshops to realize their dreams of acting and/or theatrical participation.
These workshops provide a valuable outlet by which individuals can express themselves in an artistic setting and are given feedback by a professional actor and coach. Additionally, the workshops help our individuals with their social skills, overcoming shyness, and improving self-confidence.
