HealthMatters: Instructor Workshop
In Partnership with: Rehabilitation Research & Training Center on Aging with Developmental Disabilities (RRTCADD) at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC)

HealthMatters is an evidence-based six hour Instructor Training Workshop developed by the Rehabilitation Research and Training Center on Aging with Developmental Disabilities (RRTCADD) at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).  This workshop provides structured information on how to organize and start a tailored physical activity and health education program for adults with Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) in private homes, as well as community organizations, such as recreational centers and residential/vocational organizations.

AUDIENCE: People working with individuals who have intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: By the end of the workshop you will be able to:

  1. Start and implement a physical activity and health education program.
  2. Motivate and engage individuals with I/DD in a physical activity and health education program.
  3. Teach core concepts related to physical activity and nutrition.
  4. Support individuals with I/DD to incorporate physical activity and healthy lifestyles into activities of daily living.
  5. Evaluate the effectiveness of your health promotion program.
