STATE OF THE STATE
Held on Friday, May 21 and Saturday, May 22
Two State of the State meetings were held to discuss calling our legislators at their District Offices. Both meetings were well attended by parents and guardians of people with disabilities. One was held on Friday, May 21st, 4:30 p.m. and the second on Saturday, May 22nd, 9:00 a.m.
"NorthPointe is actively working with our state legislators to address cuts outlined by the Governor," said Karl Kopp, agency President/CEO, "At this time we believe it is important to bring us together to communicate the State of the State and provide a forum for information. Some of the proposed cuts by the Governor include a 2.5% cut in Medicaid programs, elimination of Non-Medicaid grant programs and extending the payment cycle to providers."
Discussed was letting the legislators know they must approve a FY11 budget that: preserves funding for community services and supports for persons with developmental disabilities and mental illness at FY10 levels; and provides for a timely and consistent payment cycle for services provided!
"If any of the proposed State cuts occur and no replacement revenue comes in its place, it may force us to consolidate group homes, eliminate or reduce services," stated Karl.
