Zion, IL – 2017-2018 Miss Zion winner Violette Betancourt organized and hosted a six hour outdoor concert at Harbors Edge Restaurant in Waukegan July 15th benefiting NorthPointe Resources. Attendees of the event enjoyed an evening of jazz music, delicious food, as well as a chance to win raffle prizes donated by several community sponsors.
Following through with her Miss Zion platform to advocate and raise awareness for mental health, Betancourt donated all proceeds from her benefit concert to NorthPointe Resources July 18th at the Killian Center.
Ms. Betancourt presented NorthPointe CEO Dina Donahue-Chase and Development Manager Cheryl Dunlap with a check for $446, which the organization will use to help fund various programs and services.
“When I first stepped into NorthPointe I fell in love with the place. Now having opportunity to be Ms. Zion five years later, I chose to support NorthPointe because I wanted do something for my community that would make people think: “oh wow, she did that,”” Betancourt said, “I wanted to inspire people to give something back. To remind them there is a lot of good they can do within their own communities.”
“I was very impressed with Violette’s passion for supporting those with mental health issues,” said Dunlap, “it was huge undertaking for her to organize this event, and I know our entire organization is both inspired by and grateful for her efforts.”
